Professor McMorran is an Assistant Professor in the Physics Department at University of Oregon, and is a member of the UO Materials Science Institute (MSI) and the Oregon Center for Optics (OCO). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2009, after which he postdoctoral fellow in the Electron Physics Group in the Center for Nanoscale Science And Technology (CNST) at NIST in Gaithersburg. Since 2007, his research focuses on developing new methods in electron microscopy using electron vortex beams, with a specific interest in magnetic microscopy. In addition to microscopy technique development, the McMorran group uses the electron microscope as an "optics bench" to perform basic research in electron quantum optics, computer-generated (inverse) electron holography, and electron interferometry.
